TB Talks

Mar 15, 2019

First in a series of conversations about syphilis and public health produced by the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases, in conjunction with the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health. Syphilis infection rates are increasing in Winnipeg, Manitoba and cases of infectious syphilis have more than doubled in 2018.

Created in conjunction with NCCAH, this NCCID series on syphilis shares the insights of three people working to better understand the determinants of transmission in Indigenous women, how to slow or stop the disease's progression, as well as risks and prevention in cases of congenital syphilis. Here, Winnipeg sexual health educator Laverne Gervais discusses the circumstances Indigenous women can face, the corresponding risk factors, as well as ways public health can better support them.
